The main species of rats
MOUSE

Mus musculus, known as the mouse, is frequently found in our urban spaces and lives indoors, meaning it lives in close proximity to humans. Mice are small and delicate, with protruding ears and a thin tail.
They often shelter and breed in furniture, cracks, pantries, and holes in walls. Because they exhibit neophilia, they are curious and explore new things in their environment, which facilitates control methods.
RAT

Rattus norvegicus , the famous rat, large in size, weighing up to 600 grams, lives in colonies that, depending on the availability of food, water and shelter, can include a large number of individuals.
They prefer to take refuge underground, digging burrows and forming tunnels, where they breed. They can cause damage to the soil's structure. Rats also shelter in sewer or storm drains, underground telephone boxes, and stream banks, as they prefer locations close to food and water sources.
BLACK RAT

Rattus rattus , known as the "roof rat" or "black rat," is found in the city of Rio de Janeiro, although it is predominantly found in the Brazilian countryside. They belong to the same genus as the rat and have distinct morphological differences that help identify this species. Smaller than Rattus norvegicus, they can weigh up to 300g. They have a long body, large ears and eyes in comparison to their head, and a thin tail that is longer than their body.
They have great ability to walk on wires and tree branches, and they can climb vertical surfaces without difficulty, adapting perfectly to the urban architecture formed by large buildings and townhouses transformed into tenements, a region where they can easily find food and shelter.
